A dental implant comprises of three parts
Post- imitating your root, it is made up of durable titanium
Abutment- it acts as a connector between post and the crown
Crown- A natural-looking porcelain crown that is discreet and blends in with your mouth structure
In the procedure, a post which is screw-shaped replaces the root of the missing tooth, in your jaw. Once the post has healed, a custom-made porcelain crown that matches your existing teeth is placed.
What are the benefits of a dental implant?
- They support ideal bone density and are durable. They can even last for a lifetime if cared for properly
- They cannot get cavities, decay or need root canal treatments
- With a high level of sophistication, implants can look extremely natural and can perfectly blend in with your existing teeth
- They support your natural chewing abilities
- They can restore/enhance facial tissues
Ways in which dental implants can help
- Replace 1 tooth- A single tooth missing can be fixed by inserting a titanium screw doubling up as the root of your missing tooth and then a porcelain crown on top.
- Replace multiple teeth- It is not necessary that every missing tooth needs an implant. For example, if you have 3 missing teeth next to each other, we may be able to place 2 implants and restore it with 3 teeth which will be connected together.
- All on 4/ All on 6- Implants have the ability to support the entire arch of upper or lower replacement teeth by having as few as 4 or 6 implants to support a row of 10-12 replacement teeth in each arch. It is much like a chair supported by 4 legs.
- Removable dentures, implant-supported- Dentures rest on the gums, hence, the bones underneath suffer the pressure when you bite, chew, or talk. It may cause the bone to grow weaker or the dentures to slip. Rather, we place the denture on the implants that ensures that the pressure is passed on to the bone structure instead of the surface, thus reducing the deterioration.
This procedure ensures that the implants have an accurate placement in your mouth. With the help of computerized tomography, CT scans projected as 3D images help our dentists determine the oral structure. Post this, a surgical template is created using special software that determines the most optimum location for implant placement.
The risk associated with guided implant surgery is naturally lower, as our dentist will then know exactly where to place the implant.
